Best Prop Firms for German Traders
We are not going to rank our competitors for you. Any firm publishing a list of the best prop firms with itself at the top has told you something about the list, not the firms.
What we can do is set out what actually differs for a trader based in Germany, then name a few firms and the structural facts behind them.
Currency and Payment Rails Cost Real Money
Most of this industry quotes in US dollars. Fund from a German account and withdraw to one, and you pay a conversion spread twice, once on the fee and again on every payout.
Nobody advertises that number. On one account it is noise. Across a year of payouts it is not.
Check the denomination before you buy, and check how payouts leave the firm. A SEPA transfer and an international wire are not the same cost or timeline.
BaFin Does Not Stand Behind the Firm
German traders get this wrong more than most, usually because they are used to broker protections.
BaFin regulates activities carried out in Germany. A firm registered elsewhere, running simulated accounts, generally sits outside that. No German deposit protection, no ombudsman, no compensation scheme.
So the written terms do a regulator’s job. Read them for what decides whether you get paid. The drawdown calculation, the payout cycle, what voids profit, and what the firm can change on its own.
German Tax Treatment Should Change Which Model You Pick
This is where best prop firms for German traders stops being a generic question.
Payouts are generally not capital gains, so the Abgeltungsteuer does not apply. They are more commonly treated as business or other income, meaning income tax at your marginal rate plus Solidaritätszuschlag, and possibly Gewerbesteuer by municipality and whether the activity is commercial.
That has consequences for what to buy. A firm refunding the challenge fee changes your cost base. Frequent payouts complicate filing but improve cash flow. If you are employed, the Nebentätigkeit clause in your contract may matter more than any advertised feature. Settle it with a Steuerberater before picking a programme.
Three Firms German Traders Commonly Shortlist
Terms move. Read the current rules on each firm’s own pages before paying.
FTMO is Czech based, so inside the EU, and it runs a full German language site with German speaking support. No time limit on the challenge. MT4, MT5 and cTrader. Simulated accounts up to 200,000 dollars. Its Standard accounts carry news and weekend restrictions that apply once you are funded rather than during the evaluation. Its Swing accounts carry neither.
The5ers runs no maximum trading period, so no deadline. The risk budget is tighter than most, with a 3 percent daily loss limit on the programme shown at the time of writing. Workable if you size conservatively, a constraint if you trade something volatile.
TTT Markets has no time limit on any challenge phase and unlimited trading days. News trading is fully permitted with no blackout windows. Drawdown differs by model, trailing on the 1-Step and static from the initial balance on the 2-Step, and the 2-Step refunds the fee in full after your first payout. Overnight holding is allowed on every model. Weekend holding is included on the 2-Step and is a paid add-on on the 1-Step. MT5 and WebTrader.
If you trade the German index, read the weekend rule twice.
Conclusion – Best Prop Firms for German Traders
Best prop firms for German traders is the wrong question to put to a prop firm. The useful version is which firm’s rules, currency, payout rails and tax consequences fit how you trade from Germany. Work through those four and the shortlist writes itself.

Generally not, where the firm is registered outside Germany and runs simulated accounts. With no German compensation scheme, the contract and the payout record carry the weight.

Usually no. Payouts are not normally capital gains. Expect business or other income treatment, and speak to a Steuerberater before withdrawing.
